Tanah Lot Bali

Tanah Lot Temple is a tourist attraction in Bali, Indonesia. Here are two temples located on a boulder. One is located on a stone boulder and the other is located on a cliff similar to Pura Uluwatu. This Tanah Lot Temple is part of Dang Kahyangan temple. Tanah Lot Temple is a sea temple where the worship of the gods of the sea guard. Tanah Lot is famous as a beautiful place to see the sunset

HISTORY:
The history of  Tanah Lot Temple Bali Indonesia based on the legend, narrated in the 15th century, Bhagawan Dang Hyang Nirartha or known by the name Dang Hyang Dwijendra undertook the mission of spreading Hinduism from the island of Java to the island of Bali.

At that time the ruling on the island of Bali was King Dalem Waturenggong. He is very welcome with the arrival of Dang Hyang Nirartha in carrying out his mission, so that the spread of Hinduism managed to reach the remote villages in the island of Bali. 

In the history of Tanah Lot, told Dang Hyang Nirartha, seeing the sacred rays from the southern seas of Bali, Dang Hyang Nirartha searched for the location of the rays and came to a beach in a village called Beraban Tabanan. At that time Beraban village was led by Bendesa Beraban Sakti, who strongly opposed the teachings of Dang Hyang Nirartha in spreading Hinduism. Bendesa Beraban Sakti, following the flow of monotheism. Dang Hyang Nirartha meditated on a rock that resembled the shape of a parrot that was originally inland. In various ways Bendesa Beraban wants to expel Dang Hyang Nirartha from his meditation place.

According to the history of Tanah Lot based on the legend Dang Hyang Nirartha moved the rock (the place of meditation) to the center of the coast with spiritual power. The rock is named Tanah Lot which means batukarang, located in the middle of the ocean. And turn his scarf into a snake as a protector and guardian of the temple.

Since that incident Bendesa Beraban Sakti acknowledged the power possessed by Dang Hyang Nirartha by becoming his followers to embrace the Hindu religion along with all the locals. Narrated in the history of Tanah Lot, before leaving the village Beraban, Dang Hyang Nirartha give a keris to bendesa Beraban. Keris has the power to remove any diseases that attack the plant.  And stored in Puri Kediri and made a religious ceremony at Tanah Lot every six months. Since this routine has been done by the villagers of Beraban, the welfare of the population has greatly increased with abundant agricultural crops and they live in mutual respect.


There are 8 sacred temples around Tanah Lot area, each with its own function and purpose :
~ Pura Penataran - located in the northern part of Tanah Lot Temple, a temple to worship God and His manifestations for happiness and prosperity.
~ Pura Penyawang - located in the western part of Pura Penataran, this is an alternative place to pray because at the time of tidal water people who want to worship can not go up and go to Tanah Lot.
~ Pura Jero Kandang - located about 100 meters west of Pura Penyawang, this temple was built to appeal to God to be given the welfare and safety for cattle and plants.
~ Pura Enjung Galuh - located near Pura Jero Kandang, this temple was built to worship Dewi Sri for soil fertility and agriculture.
~ Pura Batu Bolong - located about 100 meters west of Pura Enjung Galuh, this temple is used during the ceremony Melasti or purification ceremony.
~ Pura Batu Mejan - located approximately 100 meters west of Pura Batu Bolong, Pura Batu Mejan also called Pura Beji. Beji means spring in Balinese language, people believe that holy water from this spring can purify everything from evil or negative elements.
~ Tri Antaka Monument - This monument is made to honor 3 Balinese heroes: I gusti Ketut Kereg, I Wayan Kamias and I Nyoman Regug, who have fought to defend the island of Bali from the Dutch Indies Civil Administration of NICA in June 1946 in the region Tanah Lot.
~ Pura Pakendungan - Located in the West about 300 meters from Tanah Lot Temple. At Pekingungan Temple is where Dang Hyang Nirartha meditate and also this place is a magic keris Jaramenara given to Bendesa Beraban Sakti.

The uniqueness of Tanah Lot is related to the myth of the local people about the sacred serpent, the sacred serpent Tanah Lot is believed to be the guardian and savior of Tanah Lot Temple from the evil attacks that disturb the holiness of the temple. The type of snake is from the Latin named Bungarus candidus, sea snakes are very poisonous and dangerous, the body has a black and white circular.

This holy serpent will attack anyone who wants to do evil and want to destroy the existence and sanctity of Tanah Lot Temple, but even so this sacred snake will remain silent and calm in the cave located at the corner of the rock near Tanah Lot Temple, even visitors can touch and stroke this sacred snake without worrying about the counterattack of this snake and of course we will be accompanied by someone who understands the character of this sacred snake. Local people also believe by touching this sacred snake while praying then what we want will be granted, a myth that can be trusted or not.

To be able to enjoy the beauty of Pura Tanah Lot with a cool view of sunset view, it is recommended to visit Tanah Lot at dusk or late afternoon with sunny weather, from around 4 pm to 7 pm afternoon.


In addition visitors can also take a walk and close to the rocks of the temple area at low tide, but very dangerous and not recommended to do so at sea tide. Tanah Lot is also very suitable place for family holiday, in this area there are also adequate facilities such as hotel, restaurant, sunset terrace, Tanah Lot cultural park, souvenir shop, parking lot, emergency facility, security facility (security) , toilets, a place to relax and also an information center.

RESTORATION
Tanah Lot Temple has been disturbed by abrasion and erosion due to waves and wind. Therefore, the Bali government through the Coastal Protection Project of Bali to install tetrapod as breakwater and strengthen the cliff around the temple in the form of artificial coral. Although you cannot enter the temple grounds, the panoramic views and cultural offerings are highlights to enjoy

The ceremony at Tanah Lot (Balinese temple ceremony called Piodalan / Pujawali) is held every 210 days (6 months) according to Bali calendar / Saka calendar, piodalan at Tanah Lot temple falls on Buda Wage Langkir day, 4 days after Hari Raya Kuningan. Location: Jalan Raya Tanah Lot, Beraban Village, Kediri, Tabanan.  is about 45 minutes by car north west of the main southern tourist areas of Kuta, Legian and Seminyak and is en-route for those heading to West Bali. From Ubud it can reached in about 30 to 40 minutes by car.
