Penglipuran Village

Located about 45 kilometers from the center of Denpasar, Penglipuran Village offers local wisdom still upheld by the people of Bali. Based on the story of the population, Penglipuran Village has existed since more than 700 years ago or precisely during the Bangli Kingdom. Where once Penglipuran Village became a resting place for the kings of Bali who want to find the atmosphere calm and peaceful. It fits perfectly with its name "Penglipuran" which means entertainer. And if seen from the origin of his name, "Pengeling Pura" is a sacred place to commemorate the ancestors.

Therefore, Penglipuran Village is one of a number of indigenous villages in Bali Island that still adhere to Balinese custom and culture. It can be seen from the daily life of the residents who until now still strong keep the tradition, custom rituals, and various other local wisdom. The traditional village of 112 hectares is a rural area that has an environmentally friendly layout and architecture. The atmosphere inside the village is very cool and cool, this is because no motor vehicle can pass through the village road.

The concept of layout of indigenous settlements in Penglipuran Village adheres to the principle of trimandala. The concept is functionally and the level of chastity is divided into three different spaces namely the main room, middle, and nista. The third location of this space stretches from the north side which symbolizes the element of the mountain to the south side which symbolizes the elements of the sea. In the middle of it stretched the straight village road terraces as the central axis that divides the middle space.


Right at the north end stands a sacred building of Pura Penataran as a place of worship for the inhabitants. The village road as a separator in the center is built using brush stones and is kept free of motor vehicles. Not far from Pura Penataran located at the northern edge of Penglipuran Village there is a bamboo forest complex that is shady and silent. Visitors are allowed to enter the customary forest with the condition that they can not cut trees without the permission of local custom figures. In addition, the unique tradition in Penglipuran Village that still exists today is the prohibition for men to engage in polygamy. It is a manifestation of respect for women. If there is a violation, then the person must move to a sacred and uninhabited place called 'Karang Memadu' in the south of Penglipuran Village.

The architectural style of the houses in Penglipuran Village looks uniform. The houses are equipped with gates and usually not a few dogs kintamani race in front of him. How to get there:
If you leave from the center of Denpasar takes about an hour journey to the northeast direction. From by pass Ida Bagus Mantra straight up to the intersection of Jalan Pantai Siyut then turn left. From Jalan Pantai Siyut to Tulikup Highway then proceed to Jalan Taman Bali towards Bangli Town. If you have arrived at Bangli City, look for Jalan Nusantara to find the intersection of three then turn left following the signpost to the Penglipuran Village Tourism Object. Follow the path approximately 300 meters to arrive in front of the gate of Penglipuran Village and will be greeted by the ticket officer.
